Just weeks after taking part in the GAVL Auction Masterclass session with Justin Nickerson, Alex bought his first ever property. Coincidence? We think not. We spoke to Alex about how he found the masterclass session.
“It was great. I found it extremely helpful and interesting. I was unsure about how easy the conversation would flow. I definitely took away some strong advice and auction day tactics.”
After being on the property hunt for 8 months, Alex had his heart set on purchasing in the Mornington Peninsula area.
“I’d spoken to a few agents about off the market opportunities and surfed property listing sites, but still had some uncertainties about my property approach.”
Alex’s father then came across GAVL’s Win an Auction Masterclass Competition and forwarded the competition to Alex. Low and behold – Alex was randomly drawn as the winner. Speaking about the opportunity to talk discreetly to an auctioneer, Alex said:
“It was good to get a real perspective on what happens on auction day, your rights at bidding on auction and how to bid at auction. Justin reinforced a few ideas I had picked up. He definitely gave me some insights into approaches for auctions that I took on board. For example we talked about putting an offer in prior to auction and how this approach, even if unsuccessful, can give you an insight into an agent and their negotiating style to help you at auction.”
He added:
“To be honest it gave me the confidence to go out there and be more aggressive.”
So, what would Alex share as his top tips for prospective buyers following the session?
“Be really confident in yourself when you are bidding and make sure you bid early enough. Have a really strong game plan and know your moves in advance. Wear sunglasses if you can – it makes it more difficult for auctioneers to read you.”
